Can I use human shampoo on my dog?

If your dog doesn’t have super sensitive skin or a skin condition, one bath with human shampoo is unlikely to do any harm, but for regular use it’s definitely not advisable. Shampoo for humans is formulated for the more acidic pH of human skin.

A dog’s skin pH is more alkaline and human shampoo used regularly will cause dryness and irritation over time. Choose a shampoo formulated and pH-balanced for dogs and avoid fragranced products and those with chemicals like sulphates, parabens, propylene glycol and ethanolamines. If your dog scratches excessively or you notice a rash, he may need a medicated shampoo from the vet.

There are so many different types of dog shampoo on the market that you should find a brand that is ideal for your dog’s skin and coat. Most shampoos are also affordable. So, rather use a shampoo for dogs on your furry friend.
