The SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind (GDA) had a very successful golf fund raising day albeit a rainy and rather chilly one. They managed to raise enough to sponsor two dogs for Guide Dogs (R24,113.50) from the wonderful Hole and Tee Sponsorships, entries money, and the raffles, and cash donations.

The field comprised of over 62 golfers, in a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford Competition, and they were lucky enough to have every single prize sponsored! It is only through the kindness of their sponsors and donors that it was the success that it was!!

At Guide-dogs they create powerful partnerships between people and well-trained dogs, but the reach of their work goes much deeper and has an influence far greater than appears on the surface. The exceptional breeding, kennel, puppy training programs ensure that their dogs are prepared to reach their full potential. GDA help people find that perfect partner and build a relationship that will last a lifetime. It’s a partnership that goes far beyond mobility or a person simply walking down a street. It takes puppy raisers, Guide Dog staffers, volunteers and donors to keep the team “guidedogging”.

As the nation’s only trainers of Orientation and Mobility Instructors and Guide Dogs they assist people to gain the freedom and independence to move safely and confidently and to fullfil their potential. As the organisations doesn’t receive any form of government funding for the breeding, training and provision of Guide Dogs (which are provided at the fee of R5 to clients) GDA relies heavily on the support of businesses and the community to help deliver these and other vital orientation and mobility services to those in need.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for your generosity and encouragement in our work. The real and lasting value of your donation cannot be over emphasised! And to end, an early warning – the next Golf Day will probably be held at the end of August 2015!” says Di turner, KZN GDA representative.
