Q: My cat loves Pronutro and goes crazy when I have it for breakfast. Is it safe to give him a bit – about a pea-sized amount – in the morning?
A: Giving a small treat to your pet is usually not a problem, as long as he is not allergic to any of the ingredients.
The problem arises when the snack starts to replace his normal balanced diet. In feeding balanced food, you ensure that your pet receives the correct amount of nutrients, proteins and energy every day, and this ensures that he remains in tip-top condition.
If the pet receives a lot of snacks, then he will start to consume less of his normal nutrition.
This may lead to deficiencies in his diet, and possibly also weight gain and dental issues.
It might be a better option to use balanced treats especially made for cats, which contain all the essential ingredients, instead of ‘human’ food, if you want to give your pet a treat.
