Q: When is it too hot or cold to put my budgie’s cage outside for some fresh air?
A: Don’t leave your budgie in a draft or in direct sunlight. However, do feel comfortable leaving your budgie’s cage outside in a sheltered area during the day.
If it’s any colder than 20°C outside, it’s advisable to keep your budgie indoors, but the most important thing is to introduce temperature changes gradually.
Don’t move your birds straight from an artificially heated environment (at night) into the chilly morning air outside.
Watch your bird; if he fluffs up his feathers, then he is cold, and if he abducts his wings and is breathing through an open beak, it’s likely he is too hot.
