Q & A: Rodents entering cockatiel’s cage

Q: We found that rodents enter my cockatiel’s cage to feed on the food. These are not pet rodents. What can we do to discourage them from entering the cage?

A: This is a challenging problem. Simplest would be to purchase a cage with narrower bars that the rodents cannot fit through. Second would be to keep the cage in an area that can be sealed off. Cats and dogs may also be useful in scaring off rodents.
