There are many factors to consider when feeding a pet to ensure a complete and nutritionally balanced diet is provided – one of them is sourcing the ingredients yourself to prepare the raw food. I would not recommend this. The source of the raw materials or ingredients is important, as the quality of the raw materials determine the quality of the overall diet.
If wishing to feed a raw diet, one should rather opt for a commercially prepared raw food brand that has been registered with the Department of Agriculture (and should display its registration number – the ‘V number’ on the packaging). This will ensure the food has been formulated by a qualified animal scientist and that the formulation has been scrutinised and approved by the Technical Advisor at Act 36 (at DALRRD).
