Animal shelter in Johannesburg gets robbed

poor-little-Ukraine-dogThe criminals who robbed the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) offices in Johannesburg on Wednesday showed no regard for the daily battle to raise funds, the organisation said on Thursday.

“Despite CCTV being in place, the thieves managed to crowbar their way into the premises and made off with computers, a cashbox and audio equipment,” the league said in a statement.

Estimated total value of property stolen and damage caused is an amount of R30 000.

Chairperson Tony Guia said that, unfortunately, criminals did not appear to discriminate when it came to charity organisations, with the AACL being just as vulnerable as anyone else.

“As with many others, our funding is so important to us, so it really is quite heart-breaking to think that in the long-run it will be the very animals we strive to protect, that will become the real victims of crime,” he said.
